Blooming
This body of work describes a personal process of giving myself permission to create. The works move through different states…

Vera Höök (b. 1979) is a visual artist living and working in Helsinki.
At the core of her artistic practice are female figures, the themes of womanhood, and intuitive expression. Höök’s works emerge from a personal process of allowing herself the freedom to paint without predetermined boundaries. This liberation is channeled onto the canvas as a strong presence and powerful energy.
Stylistically, Höök is expressive and bold. Her expression ranges from intensely vibrant paintings to their stark contrast: minimalist and graphic black-and-white works. Both extremes emphasize a large scale and the ability to command space. Most recently, Höök has specialized in ink painting, which highlights her free expression and the element of surprise in the final result.
Höök’s work draws from precise visual observation and a deep understanding of the dialogue between color and form. Years of experience in life drawing have honed her understanding of movement and proportions. This foundation is complemented by studies in abstract painting and a long career as a fashion designer—a background reflected in her art through the mastery of structure, rhythm, and visual composition.
Höök also accepts commissions, and her paintings have been sold to private collections in both Finland and Germany.
