Vera Höök (b.1979) is a visual artist living and working in Helsinki.
Her artistic approach is grounded in precise visual observation and a deep understanding of the dialogue between color and form. Extensive experience in life drawing has refined her sensitivity to movement, anatomy, and proportion. This foundation is complemented by studies in abstract painting and a long career as a fashion designer — a background that resonates in her work through a strong sense of structure, rhythm, and compositional balance.
Stylistically, Höök’s language is expressive and bold. Her practice moves between extremes — from intensely vibrant, color-saturated paintings to stark, minimalist black-and-white compositions. Regardless of the palette, her works are often large-scale and spatially assertive, capable of holding and transforming the surrounding environment.
In recent years, Höök has increasingly focused on ink painting. This medium amplifies spontaneity, allowing chance and intuition to play an active role in the final outcome.
Höök also works on commission. Her paintings are held in private collections in Finland and Germany.

This body of work describes a personal process of giving myself permission to create. The works move through different states…
